Currently the Board of Management of Volkswagen Group China comprises seven members.
Each Board Member is responsible for one or more functions within Volkswagen Group China.

CEO of Volkswagen China Passenger Cars Brand
In the beginning of 2019, Dr. Wöllenstein was appointed CEO of Volkswagen Group China and Member of the Board of Management, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand. Since August 2016, Dr. Wöllenstein has also served as CEO of Volkswagen China Passenger Cars Brand.
Dr. Wöllenstein received a Ph.D. from Westfälische Wilhelms University in Münster in 1994 and joined Volkswagen the next year. Over the past 25 years, he has held various management positions within the Group, including at Volkswagen AG in Germany, as well as at SAIC VOLKSWAGEN and FAW-Volkswagen in China, gaining a wealth of experience across branding, sales, marketing and product management at a strategic level.

Responsible for Purchasing
On August 1, 2020, Michael Bäcker was appointed Executive Vice President of Volkswagen Group China responsible for Purchasing, and Member of the Board of Management.
In 1991, Bäcker started his career at Volkswagen AG, and was responsible for the function of the Group factory and infrastructure planning. Over the past 30 years, he has held various senior positions within the Group, including at Volkswagen AG in Germany, Volkswagen Brazil and SAIC Volkswagen in China, and has mainly been in management positions for purchasing.

Responsible for Components, Logistics and QA
In May 2019, Frank Engel was appointed Executive Vice President of Volkswagen Group China responsible for Components, Logistics and QA, and Member of the Board of Management.
In 1991, Engel started his career at Volkswagen AG. Over the past 30 years, he has held managerial positions in various production sites based in Changchun, Shanghai and Dalian in China, and Chemnitz in Germany, mainly responsible for the production planning and component production within the Group, including Volkswagen Brand and ŠKODA.

Responsible for Corporate & JV Affairs
In January 2019, Dr. Liu Yunfeng was appointed Executive Vice President of Volkswagen Group China responsible for Corporate & JV Affairs, and Member of the Board of Management.
Dr. Liu received a Ph.D. in Economics at Leipzig University in 2003. In the following year, he joined Volkswagen Group China, and has gained extensive experience in project operations and product management. Starting from 2013, he served as the Head of Shareholder & JV Affairs.

On September 1, 2021, Dr. Jörg Mull was appointed Executive Vice President of Volkswagen Group China responsible for Finance, and Member of the Board of Management.
In 2002, Dr. Mull joined Volkswagen AG. In nearly 2 decades, Dr. Mull has held various positions as CFO of group entities, including at Volkswagen AG in Germany, Volkswagen Group China, Bentley Motors in the UK, as well as Volkswagen Anhui in China, and was able to gain profound knowledge in finance functions.

Responsible for Group Research and Development China
On July 1, 2019, Dr. Thomas Manfred Müller was appointed Executive Vice President of Volkswagen Group China responsible for Group Research and Development China, and Member of the Board of Management.
Dr. Müller received a Ph.D. in Physics from Heidelberg University in April 1999. He has been working in the automobile industry for more than 20 years, with over 15 years of extensive China experience. In December 2016, Dr. Müller joined Volkswagen AG as Head of the Electrics / Electronics & Car IT at AUDI AG in Germany. Before that, he worked at Volvo Car Group in Sweden for almost 5 years, and almost 13 years for the BMW Group in Germany.

Responsible for Human Resources, Organization & ITP
On November 1, 2018, Jens Pfitzinger was appointed Executive Vice President of Volkswagen Group China responsible for Human Resources, Organization & ITP, and Member of the Board of Management.
In 2001, Pfitzinger joined Volkswagen AG. Over the past 20 years, he has held various managerial positions within the Group, including at Volkswagen AG in Germany, ŠKODA AUTO in Czech Republic and other Group entities, with profound knowledge and management experience in human resources, enterprise strategy, and organization design and development.
